A major issue within our community is food insecurity, which has only seemed to get worse as the city ages especially in lower income and minority neighborhoods. Large organizations such as the Greater Chicago Food Depository and smaller volunteer groups like the Love Fridge both seek the same goal, to use the resources that are available to give to those in Chicago who have little access or cannot afford nutritious, healthy food and the supplies necessary to do so.
Our mission is to inform the our community on the importance and relevance of food insecurity within many of our communities. Due to its lack of attention, most Chicagoans are unaware of the thousands of people are struggle with food security and finding food which are not only healthy but affordable. According to the Chicago Food Equity Agenda, nearly 1 in 5 people in the Chicago metro region face food insecurity within their homes. To further delve into the topic, visit the Problem page.
